got any? post 'em here. i mean seriously extreme examples, folks. i know you've got 'em. and if you post 'em, lemme know if it's ok to a) ask you follow-ups about 'em, or b) write about 'em.
i need weird examples of crazed DIY/punk star wars fanaticism
I have been collecting articles and notes for a massive punk/star wars connection piece that i will never get around to writing.
But recently, I discovered all the stuffed figure things that my mom and aaron melnick's mom made for us the xmas after the first star wars movie. They are kind of creepy, C3PO is made from this weird shiny cloth and of course, the wookie came out the best.
What are you working on Anne?
Revelation, or was it Victory that you used to be able to send them Star Wars stuff in return for colored vinyl pressings?
Loved himself some 1960s era GI JOE shit. I traded him some junk that a cousin handed down to me in the original boxes that was worth way more than the Chung King Can Suck it and Crippled Youth records I got in trade.
But whatever.
There IS that video floating around online of some Star Wars fans almost beating up Clit 45...don't know if that's what you're looking for.
that a youtube thing, costacide? got a link for me?
r.john, it's more from this freaking-me-out-late UNMARKETABLE book. the Star Wars chapter came back from my editor and, well, it basically needs help. I think I need to prove somehow that Star Wars is more important to the underground than, maybe, to people raised in "normal" consumer environments. I know this is true, 'cause at a party recently filled with DIY cartoonist types, I jokingly commented that Star Wars "just doesn't matter anymore" and there was some talk of *actually* kicking me out of the party.
so tell me more!
punk rockers take on the star wars movie line
I can also scan in the essay I wrote in Uncertain Nervous Systems : Infinite Uses of Infinity about Star Wars. But you know, since the new films have come out a lot of the connection has dwindled. There used to be quite a few sites out there that were dedicated to the intrinisic punkness of the original films, but those seem to have dwindled.
There were also a group of kids who were self-proclaimed Star Wars Punks that were complying a zine on the subject but I have not heard from then in at least a year, so I think, maybe they gave up too.
Its interesting too that when the Sex Pistols hobbled around the USA on their Filthy Fucking Lucre tour it was the same year the LucasArts re-digitized the original films with new Jabba scenes and Greedo shooting first, et al. in order to scrape up more filthy fucking lucre of their own with limited theatrical re-release.
You might want to chat up the nerds over at star wars.com, theforce.net or forums
.Plus don't forget alex empire of atari teenage riot's solo work GENERATION STAR WARS, among others.
I'd love to read the Uncertain Nervous Systems piece.
How do you feel, tho, r. john, about making DIY product that supports what, STILL, 30 years after it first appeared, is one of the most profitable licensed series going? I mean, Lucas doesn't even have a film out this year and he's still #15 most best celebrities in the Forbes 100 list (fell down from the #4 spot last year overall, although he was at the time first in fiscal value.)
I mean, I feel a freaking bizarre connection to the series, too, and dressed as princess leia how many times for how many halloweens? so I'm genuinely asking your thoughts on this. or the thoughts on the Star Wars Punks you may have some kinda "in" with.
...was on E! when Star Wars Redux was rereleased in 97 or whatever when he and some friends all dressed like princess leia. Maybe there is some kind of E! star wars archive you can find in the library of congress.
written at least four years ago, if not longer. here are the scans. let me know if they at all interesting or helpful. I doubt it is what you are after tho.
I have a bunch of things I might add tomorrow if I get a minute or two while at work. I've been thinking about this a lot and might actually revisit the project again.
what do you know about lucas' copyright protection? i know he sued a couple zinesters several years ago, but i haven't been able to pin down who yet. know anything i don't?

Ask R.John about Star Wars toys.
