How do you do it?

How do you blog?

It's a question I've put way too much thought into these days, but I'm genuinely curious as to the patterns of writing that people have.

Are you personal, and not just in that LiveJournal sort of way? Humorous? Strictly news/editorial-influenced? Or business, in that "hey check out my ______!" sort of way, promoting your zines or band?

I primarily ask because as I sift through my own favorite blogs (that I read) I realize that all my favorites are a mix of business and personal. I'll browse a lot through a week's worth of reading (and I read a lot during the day when not writing/doing work), but there are only a few that I consistently read every day/update, the ones that are a mixed style.

Just figured I'd ask since I'm procrastinating.

I have a few blogs.
My main one is:
http://bloodandpudding.livejournal.com
There I post a mixture of business and personal. It is also picture heavy.
My art blog is all business:

Paintings and press and that's about it.
My myspace blog is also all business
www.myspace.com/katelanv
modeling and art
This one here is a little bit of a notebook for me, a blog to help me keep my head on straight.
And then, this isn't much of a blog but on my website I have my news and press section that gets updated regularly

What are some of your favorites?

I'm a comic nerd, so I follow Brian Wood's site/Twitter/Livejournal (http://brianwood.com), and also follow Warren Ellis through LJ (http://warren-ellis.livejournal.com). Those are the mix of business/personal I like, same with Occasional Superheroine (http://occasionalsuperheroine.blogspot.com) and Jessica Hopper (http://tiny.abstractdynamics.org).

There comes a time in every young man's life when blah blah blah.

What I really mean is:

I used to have a whole bunch of 'fuckjob.blogpot' sites for different styles of writing, and when I wanted to put mp3s up I'd make a new Myspace.

Now I put all my Mp3s on a 'semi-professional' site, targeted at radio stations and people who want mock-commercial punk muzak jingles. I get some airplay in Australia doing this, but no luck yet with the punk muzak jingles. Onward and upward etc.

That's hosted on Wordpress, which is a bit expensive ($30 per year) but I am lazy and like their software. However, I could easily use the 8meg upload limit as a host for other free wordpress sites if I wished. Even now I am considering splitting that site up into the muck-around stuff, and the stuff that stands a chance of getting picked up by radio stations. Separating between 'friendly' and 'commercial' is a sad issue, though. I don't really want to do it.

For photos, I have a family photo blog, and a bullshit blog for crap photos and rants. My family go to the first one to obsess over pics of my kids. Obscure google searches hit my other one. My last hit was 'Sligachan unfriendly.' I never promote either site.

As for writing, if I send something to a publisher, I make a promo site for the project, but I don't promote these sites; I just let google let the oddballs find their way.

I have given up on Myspace because I hate all the fake adds, I am avoiding facebook, and have only just heard of twitter. (See the recent 'too late for the trend' thread.)

Hey, why wasn't this a thread?
