So I was asked to take part in this Best Albums of 2006 poll, and the results are in. One had up to 10 choices and could either assign each a point rating based on how high you wanted that particular album rated, or you could give each of the 10 albums 10 points, rating them all evenly.
I chose to give all 10 albums 10 points, and here's my list (you'll notice it looks very similar to my best-of list for Punk Planet 77):
1. The Lawrence Arms, Oh! Calcutta!
2. Cannibal Corpse, Kill
3. Frightmare, Bringing Back the Bloodshed
4. Mr. Lif, Mo' Mega
5. Cretin, Freakery
6. Lair of the Minotaur, The Ultimate Destroyer
7. V/A, Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal
8. Kashmere Stage Band, Texas Thunder Soul 1968-1974
9. The Steinways, Missed the Boat
10. Clipse, Hell Hath No Fury
Now, here's where they ended up in the poll:
1. The Lawrence Arms - #206 w/ 39 points in 3 votes
2. Cannibal Corpse - #728 w/ 10 points in 1 votes
3. Frightmare - #781 w/ 10 points in 1 votes
4. Mr. Lif - #154 w/ 55 points in 6 votes
5. Cretin - #452 w/ 17 points in 2 votes
6. Lair of the Minotaur - #830 w/ 10 points in 1 votes
7. Good God! - #1,001 w/ 10 points in 1 votes
8. Kashmere Stage Band - #823 w/ 10 points in 1 votes
9. Steinways - #971 w/ 10 points in 1 votes
10. Clipse - #4 w/ 1057 points in 102 votes
Now, the only album I chose that even came close to breaking the top 100 was the new Clipse, which everyone was shitting their pants over anyway (Trend Ridaz). Six of my 10 choices, I was the only one that voted for.
TV on the Radio was #1, by the way. Sidenote: I once told one of those guys that drinks weren't allowed in the record store I work in (which they're not), and looked offended that I asked him to leave it on the counter while he shopped.
Fuck that band.

Seems a bit odd to me that six albums, all of which got the same number of votes and points could range in number from #728 to #1001. H
