Loyola takes back WLUW

by Dave Hoffa | 07/18/2007 | in I'm pissed

Super bullshit. Read about it here:

Doubly sucks because I was going to do a metal show later this year. ARGH.

FYI: For some reason, this link dumps you in the middle of the article. Scroll up to the top.

must be vatican ordered.
the 88.7 John Carroll station WJCU was taken back by the Unviserity maybe 8 years ago. And cleveland lost a great metal show in the take over.

FUCK THE JESUITS!
and then get half a million in shush money.

it says that the format is going to be the same for a hot minute.... maybe you can squeeze in a short run of a metal show?

This doesn't say much. I was never sold on WBEZ's management of the station. Prior to 2002 the station was just fine, so there's no reason it couldn't be again. The only sure downside would be those god-awful freshman comm majors reading the news. Seriously, how can you not be able to pronounce Ariel Sharon???

88.7 was an indie station prior to it being taken over by WBEZ. I'm not going to vouch for how long. But it was.

Actually, I will sort of vouch for how long. I know for a fact in April of 2000 it had a Friday or Saturday night punk rock show. I'm pretty sure Justin Government was doing it.

I finally ponied up some cash for them this year and just finished rocking out to the Hump Day Dance Party. I love a lot of the current shows and will be really sad to see them go. As an out-of-touch old lady, I rarely find decent music to listen to without the aid of WLUW. My iTunes would be packed with late 80's/early 90's shit without them. I guess the only upside is that maybe I'll miss living in Rogers Park a lot less if WLUW's format changes.

Justin did that punk show until two years ago or so. I was at his last show, even!

There's still a punk show with the same name to this day.
