it's been said before, but i'll say it again: the wire is the best show on television. period. better than six feet under, better than deadwood, way, way better than the sopranos or that mess that was carnivale. rent it, watch it, be moved. it's well written, amazingly acted, and, well, i've got a crush on omar.

But I think it may be just a tad overrated. I keep hearing lots of hyperbolized accolades about this show, and nothing ever lives up to that kind of hype.
So yes, good show, but "best show ever in the history of television, ever, oh my god, a life-changing viewing experience"...eh, that is pushing it.

Actually it's Mr. Wu saying it, so it's in a strong Cantonese accent. Printed in the usual fashion, "cocksucker" doesn't have quite the explosive impact as when Keone Young says it. Something like "San Francisco COCK-SUCKAH!!!!!" The emphasis is an attempt to convey Mr. Wu's spite and utter contempt for Mr. Li.
i finished season 2 today, i liked it, but i liked season 1 more. as soon as i finish Dexter season 1 (just starting it up right now) i'll jump into season 3 of the wire, hopefully this week. i went to get caught up on this show by the time the 5th season starts airing.
The chain of events that kicks season two off - namely the fucking polack's stained glass window - is one of the better prime movers I've seen on a tv show.
Plus Ziggy is such a tragic fuck-up tho and for that the second season is great. But yeah, season one was by far the best of THE WIRE.
also, I am in the middle of FREAKS AND GEEKS. I fought watching this for years, and I am glad I did. Its good stuff.
finished up season 4 last weekend...that one was great, probably my 2nd or 3rd fav. season...season 3 was more of a blur to me except for the ending...i want to buy all these now and watch them again from the start...can't wait for season 5 in january!
