Updates when I can be bothered. Feel free.

The guy from Strange Reaction has taken down his old site which had some killer stuff. On the new site, you can't download any more, only stream. I don't recognise anything there at the moment except some rare tracks by the Damned.

Something I Learned Today

Something I learned is one of my favourite MP3 blogs. This guy also has a new look but has kept all of his old stuff. Has a habit of posting theme based mixes (Bombs, Halloween, Valentines Day) but before that he was posting entire EPs or large portions of LPs. All sorts of stuff here and stays up for a long time.

I think you should go listen to
WE HAD LOVE by the Scientists because it rules.

Post Punk Junk

My other favourite is Post Punk Junk. A lot of it is 70s and early 80s. Recently it whole albums posted as zip files.

There is a live Husker Du album there on the front page that I am intending to download shortly. (I am without speakers at present as all our stuff is in storage, so I can only assume that it is wonderful because Husker Du are wonderful).

There are also live albiums by the Cure, the Stranglers, as well as the entire Warsaw album, and all sorts, but seriously, listen to the BIRTHDAY PARTY LIVE ALBUM because it will fuck with you good.

...all of those. I didn't realize that Strange Reaction had gone streaming only. Bummorz, etc.

I'm too lazy to post links, so here's all my del.icio.us links that I've tagged "MP3 Blogs."

Also, PCL Linkdump did a pretty thorough roundup of all their favorites a few weeks back.

On closer inspection...

Strange Reaction does have stuff to download, but mostly mixes for podcasting.

A track from the new (2005) Fall album is up there now.

Actually ....

"You guys discovered MP3's just recently?"

Where did "recent" enter into the conversation? *scratches head*

Actually, I prefer FLAC, SHN, or APE files ... hopefully recorded with a properly skewed burner using EAC, but that's just me.

Man, you don't read very well.

Although your spelling's gotten a lot better.

Dressed for the H-Bomb

The guy (I'm assuming it's a guy) from Dressed for the H-Bomb has given up his MP3 blog about two weeks ago, after 100 posts in 14 months.

Total number of complaints about copyright infringement (even though I always felt like it wasn't really my place to make other people's music available for mass consumption) over the course of 100 posts= zero. Now that's punk.

I never really got much outa this one, but its nearly all still there, past about October 2005, before which it's mostly been taken down. Daisy might appreciate the Generation X demo.

My pick would be No Means No's First Seven Inch.

I probably should explore it again and listen to all the ones I've never heard of, before he takes it all down.

MP3 blogs

I like Little Hits a lot. It doesn't look as if he's updated his site in a while, though.

This is a podcast, not an MP3 blog: GaragePunk.com

I like

I like http://crudcrud.blogspot.com/ for amazing thrift-store and garage sale excavations.

Same dude co-runs this: http://static-party.blogspot.com/ (specializing in the best of garagepunk's overlooked artifacts of the 90's).

Excellent new music blog from the UK...

Crud Crud is superb. Superb to the point that I can't even like it, because I'm a "can I digest this in 5 minutes? No? Then fuck it!" kind of guy.

If you like the oddball thrift store ephemera, definitely check out Dinosaur Gardens and/or Check the Cool Wax.

Last Days of Man on Earth

http://lastdaysofman.blogspot.com

This is realy good and I have been checking it all out lately. It's kewl becuse they have individual links to every band put up so you don't have to search the archives month by month.

Over here: http://lastdaysofman.blogspot.com/2007/04/wall-of-voodoo-dark-continent....

they have that entire Wall of Voodoo Album with the digital termite sound that Chicago Greg is always going on about. I'm downloading that right now.

YAY

Egg City Radio.

I know. How could I not know this already?

It's the old post punk junk guy with a new site. I don't think the TV show is much chop because I dislike youtube, but he has lots of zipped albums in the archive now.

FEAR DEMOS - http://www.eggcityradio.com/?p=166

He has the Talking Heads demos, too.

Wow

Those FEAR demos are the best things I've heard in a long time. I'm so glad I don't live in the alternate universe where they became the Rick Springfieldy power pop band they were kinda veering off towards on a couple of those tracks.

yeah

I guess a lot of early punk was very contrived in that way. Bands would deliberately punk up their sound when it started becoming popular.

One of the comments on the blog suggest that Lee Ving made a considered choice to form a punk band, because it was the going thing. Maybe the Rick Springfield sound was just another stylistic option they had.

please, in-the-knowniks. I don't feel like doing the leg-work. Also I will note that many such of these blogs are reliant on rapidshare.de, which won't work for me at all without getting a pay account, which I suspect is deliberate. If I wanted to pay to get music I wouldn't be stealing it!
