Guitar Army

by my_disease | 09/11/2007

I'm reading John Sinclair's book "Guitar Army" and, holy shit I was born in the wrong decade! Has my generation become so complacent that we can't even wage war against "the man"? So far I've discovered the important ingredients for a decent revolution include good music, idealism, fucking in the streets and a shitload of acid and weed.

It would be awesome to see 100,000 people outside of the White House chanting "Fuck this war and Fuck you too!" at the President. We could hold a total boycott of every corporation and completely live life communaly.

We need to take our world back before our world is crushed beneath the feet of the corporate machine. Burn a flag, be a little chaotic, cause some disorder - we need to start pushing back before we are caught beneath the wheels of this run-away machine, a machine that claims it's "by the people, for the people".

It comes down to this, Dana or the QPP.
I chose the QPP.
I need it.
It's cheap.
That's that.

FLUID

by my_disease | 09/26/2006 | in user reviews | zines

(My past two blog posts were actually taken from some zines I've gathered from the several places I like to hang out. Both of the little stories had a notice saying it was OK to reproduce. I figured doing a review of the zines wouldn't be a good idea since both of the zines no longer exist, so I selected something from each that I would hope start some conversation.)

But moving on;

Walking through my favorite bookstore, Schuler Books and Music in Grand Rapids, I found a very fun and informative zine that should be looked into; FLUID.

Fluid is an informative zine that "offers a host of information to enlighten, educate, entertain" and etc. The September 2006 issue has an article on different forms of tea and their health benefits. It also describes how to get and prepare many of the different herbs, plant roots and leaves so you can make the tea's yourself. The most interesting thing I learned was about dandelion root and how studies show it can help the liver and can regenerate the damaged parts of a liver as well.

If punk were alive today...

by my_disease | 09/11/2006

To call yourself "punk" would be a good fashion statement, but it would not be a good way to describe as your lifestyle. All of these 'punk' zines, magazines and bands are awfully nostalgic of the punk era, but they are just a fading shadow in comparison to the era.

Whether packaged as being independent or corporate, punk is just a mere industry now. In order to be punk now you must buy yourself into that facade of a lifestyle. All of today's "punks" ideas are just rehashed cliches of the dreams of past punks who have fizzled away into non-existance.

Punk is a rotting corpse and you people are the maggots feasting on it. There are no movements for our generation to subscribe to, so you find that ascribing to a past one is just as good. Unfortuantly this makes it quite easy for any corporation or industry to make a quick buck. They give it a punk look and a punk name and they quickly have a product that can be sold to any idiot who thinks they live with some punk ideology.

Catalog your books online.

by my_disease | 09/08/2006 | in Books | Ideas | Library | Reading

If you are a reader like I am, you probably also own an abundance of books. Keeping track of those books can sometimes be a bit of a hassle. After trying numerous, often strenous different methods to catalog my nearly 200 books using tangible means, I finally gave up.

Before long the desire to catalog my books came back and I figured I'd try a different method: electronic. After a quick search online I narrowed my options down to two sites, "Collectorz*" and "LibraryThing" and looked over each site debating which one suited me the best.

Collectorz requires that you download a program and only allows you to catalog 100 books before you must begin paying for their services. LibraryThing on the other hand is all done online. Setting up an account is very easy and it allows you to input up to 200 books for free before it will charge you to start using its services.
