You happy with them?
AWESOME!!!
I failed!
I blame Ben.
I just got my copy (fast delivery, Lulu!).
I started reading it, but then I stopped.
The Preface was just so fucking bad.
I'm mean, really, where did you find that fuckstick?
HOW DID YOU KNOW?!!!
Thanks very much guys -- I really hope you like it!
R.John and Ben: No one failed! You guys worked ever so hard on this and I will always be very grateful for that! It was just easier for me this way. Oh, R.John, I will mail you back tonight.
KPunk: I get £1 from every sale on Lulu, which is the lowest amount that you can set it to, below that is zero revenue. You can set it from zero revenue to much higher. I am happy with them so far!
I skipped over the inane Introduction and am about halfway through with the book. It is awesome. I love it. Kudos.
I can't wait to see how it looks.
I agree, its best to skip the intro to the book!
I'm going to download.
What can I send you?
Hey, you're back!
I thought you might have impaled yourself on the little umbrella in one of your frilly drinks.
Glad to see your scowling countenance again.
top.
BUY IT SPOTTY!
I've been meaning to post a review, but I never have my book with me when I sit down to type. Regardless, my favorite passage is when they have narcolepsy and the guy talks about falling asleep on the toilet and waking up with dried shit stuck to his ass. I laughed out loud, which is rare for me.
The book is really, really good. I quickly fell into the narrative (the opening scene of going to score drugs was well done). The characters were nicely fleshed out, especially Adam and Sean. A minor quibble was my feeling that Adam and Lincoln's relationship needed to be fleshed out further. I never really got a strong sense of the tension between the two of them, other than by reading you state that there was tension. But the narrative was structured really well, the dialogue was great, and the prose was compellingly sparse. The knife in the back and the embers at the end didn't feel forced at all. ****
Because they were both wretchedly similar, the animosity between Lincoln and Adam was a self-hate thing that thinly masked complete, desperate sadness. All they needed to do was exist, and the other would see a failing reflection of themselves. I didn't think it needed further explanation.
Plus, interpersonal squabbles are nothing compared to the real antagonist in the book--innocence, the insatiable, intrapersonal asshole. This is so true though, and I love the passages describing it.
Anyway, I read this today and I liked it. Totally engrossing and extremely funny in parts.
In fact, Daisy had me on the train busting out with many uncontrollable, dumb-ass smirks that lasted for minutes at a time.
There were many more, but these are the parts that stick out the most in the lol department.
"Nope. A species-wide genocide via forcible asphyxiation with squeaky, red clown noses."
"Ok, then. Linc, how am I going to get rid of this girl?" "Set the bed on fire."
It took three good flushes to get that green lump down. (I don't know why, the whole progression of the spirulina passage was really funny to me)
"People don't wash their hands after they go to the bathroom, then they come back out and eat these nuts with pee-hands. Peanuts, pee-nuts, get it? It's so appropriate!" he said, eating a peanut thoughtfully. (the use of "thoughtfully" here was awesome)
"Who isn't sick to death of themselves?" "Morrissey."
And then the whole passage about being paid to piss on a "crazy, ugly, old hippy".
I liked the being sick on a cockroach part
Of reviewing. And I'd agree with everything said. I laughed out loud plenty of times too which is a pretty crucial compulsory for any good book in MY book. The pace was pretty steady and I feel like I got a decent sense of time and place although I can't quite remember, do we know the ages of everyone? I definitely found myself wanting more background on the relationships and characters. Thats the best way to build EMPATHY.
of course i've ordered a copy.
also, i thought i'd let you know that i am currently working on a comic about the ghosts of voltaire and lenny bruce going on a motorcycle ride through the himalayas with a rather grouchy yeti at the helm. i'll let you know how it all turns out...
Thank you guys so much for reading it and giving me your opinions -- it really means a lot to me! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!
Dr. Stevie: don't send me anything! Just tell me what you think.
Miranda, my lovely wife: That sounds like the best comic ever -- I can't wait to read it. They don't come any cooler than you
