Disgusting life.
So I am sitting here, totally snowed in and hungry, listening to BATTLES new cd
if MAGMA and the BOREDOMS made music for white punks taking fun transatlantic cruises with shuffle board pucks with the RAMONES' faces screened on them and Capt. Stubin played by Jell-O Biafra, then BATTLES would be the dining room band playing two sets a night, one live and one pre-recorded.
The Battles CD isn't even new. They don't even have other cds to differentiate this one from. All you had to say was "I'm listening to the Battles CD" and everyone would know what you were talking about. But you had to say "new." So I thought, maybe they have a new cd out. But they don't. You are listening to their old CD, R John, you dumb jerk. You stinking low life. Why don't you get your facts straight for once, huh?
I will tell you why I like Battles. First of all because Pitchfork Media told me to. If that's not a good enough answer then geez I'll just have to come up with a few more reasons. I also like them because the melodies they come up with are similar to the ones I generally generate when I fuck around with music (but much better of course). So when I hear this music I hear what maybe I could have been had I been a musician. I like the sound of the drums. I like the guitar parts. What really makes this shit stand out to me though are the vocal FX. Being a big fan of T-Pain, akon and all other true believers of Troo-Tone I like how this band uses the similar concept of dehumanizing vocals and making them more of an instrument than a lyrical accompaniment. But I feel compelled to add that I'm not a huge fan. I would never go see them live or buy any of their products. I downloaded the album and tend not to skip any of the tracks when it comes up on my ipod shuffle (a rare occurrence).
Anyway, let me hijack this thread to talk about that awesome teenie bopper sub-hit "Promise Ring" by Tiffany Evans featuring Ciara. Like the Battles CD, it is also nearly a year old, yet I still jam out to this out right jam. I also like that two year old song by Ciara, "Promise." Getting old is all about loving things you used to hate. I love R n B! If Hitler didn't off himself he'd be all old saying, "I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm all about Andre Previn. What a mensch!"
Sometimes a girl needs to know that she's appreciated for all the things she does
With some sorta of token of love
Cause without it her young heart won't know
And right then to my surprise
Pulled out a small velour box pink ribbon tied
I'm wondering what's inside
He opened it and then he replied
He said I promise not to hurt you, promise not to lie
Promise to befriend you and defend you with my life
I promise you forever, I promise you today
(He said) Would you wear my promise ring
(I said yes)
If you break your promise we breaking up
Gotta couple things that I want
Walks in the park and sweet things
If I rock your promise ring
I could be pretty young thing
You could become my king
I gotta have you by me
Yes, I'll rock your promise ring
Yes, I'll rock your promise, promise, promise ring
Yes, I'll rock your promise
Yes, I'll rock your promise ring
Ah, it reminds me of when I was a young girl.
promise ring
hold the hand of my lord and savior
I will always be on my best behavior
oooh oooh
promise ring that I wear
protects my purity
I won't I won't
I won't become a tease
oooh oooh
Once I read this feminist essay saying that promise rings were supposed to represent the vagina and that wearing one was like 1. Promising the ownership of your vagina to only that person and 2. Being forced to wear a chastity belt.
Dumb kids can waste their money on cute rings and promising to one day only fuck eachother all they want. I'm not pro or anti. Mainly I just thought the premise of that essay was funny.
I wish that I could replicate the exact wording in it. The imagery alone was pretty amusing.
I also think R John subscribes to that "obscurantist philosophy which holds wrong-knowledge to be superior to right-knowledge." It's because he's old and stuck in the 90s, when everything that was good sucked and everything that sucks was good. They were playing anti-establishment to the hilt. Also as a reference desk worker he holds the keys to knowledge and resents the burden. Thus he spreads disinformation in his free time--letting his hair down in his own peculiar fashion.
If a promise ring represented her vagina, wouldn't she be constantly penetrating her own symbolic vagina. Or if she wore it on a chain, I suppose she would be chained to her vagina.
I think the oppression of women with rings or otherwise originates from the insecurity of the man and the foolishness of the woman. But I think it can also be sweet and romantic for kids. Especially now that they are deepthroating 50 guys behind the dumpster during lunch period and email blasting the video to the PTA. It's nice to be appreciated.
This is all true, with the one added caveat that it is a function of my asshole shitbag-dom to take the obscurantist philosophy to new lows of non-meaning.
As long as you don't go post schedule changes, last year someone printed up a bunch of them i think for the A train put them up in a station and no one showed up for those trains. Anyway my friend just got some janet jackson tickets and were going to see her live along with some others in the line up should be good.
