Lately I have been obsessing over the idea that Burt Lancaster should have been President instead of Ronald Reagan. I cannot offer any rational explanation for this other than that they were contemporaries and that Reagan was a third-rate actor and a moral homunculus whereas Lancaster was a fine actor and a supremely decent human being. However the chief characteristic of decent human beings is that they have no will to power and thus do not tend to achieve positions thereof. I can for instance unearth no evidence that Lancaster ever aspired to any political position and in fact seemed to take roles mocking such types, as per his right-wing general in SEVEN DAYS IN MAY. I am waiting for the X-Men to show up and set the timeline straight.
Do You Ever Get the Feeling That We Are Living in Some Awful Alternate Future That Should Not Have Been
I think you are right.
I don't know when it happened but I think 9/11 was evidence of a time disjunction. Evidently, there were two realities overlapped: one without the WTC and one with. The planes were flying along fine when suddenly, towers from an alternate universe appeared. Then etc.
