I can't get anyone to go with me and I don't want to go by myself.
Hey Josh, even though you are always super busy...you want to see Magas in like 45 minutes?
Resend if you feel so inclined.
But, yeah, I went late hoping only to catch Magas, but instead I caught one of the openers, Viki, who I actually saw open for someone else, but who that was eludes me. That time, all I remember was an aural assault of bee buzzing and bird chirping samples. This time, she sounded more like the soundtrack to the Exorcist mixed with dentist drill samples with slight electro and industrial leanings. But mostly dentist drills. I can respect anyone who is willing to go on stage, look like they're having a complete mental breakdown, and make my fillings hurt with noise.
Not like you care. Not like I care. But the Labatt was flowing, and Magas had equipment issues, and he cursed Steve Jobs and played for like 20 minutes. And I was really only there for like an hour and a half. I stood off to the side and chugged some Labatts.
And now you have a whole recap. And I know you're jealous.
I'm sure Pitchfork would rank Shellac/Dianogah hybrids (with a touch of Archers of Loaf) pretty highly.
After extensive five-minute research I've concluded that your demo would get about a 7.5 on a 10-point scale. Not too shabby! Shellac ranked well and Dianogah only slightly less. Archers of Loaf don't even rank on Pitchfork's "noteworthy, idie" radar.
So you guys should probably submit that demo for your big break.
Oh DAMN!
PS: Yeah, I would've rather seen Lake of Dracula, LL Cool A, but what am I going to do. Magas is a stand-up individual and a great showman, though, despite the ho-hum muddy electro.
i know, i know.
i don't even know any of these london bands that people keep talking about.
someone was talking about the idea that you pay a monthly subscription fee to a website and then you can download as much music as you want to. but, there just isn't enough music in the world that i actually like for me to pay monthly.
That is basically what I've made in sum total revenue from all of my musical endeavors. If we're talking margin here then, adding in the free beer and list slots, and factoring in time spent, recording, instruments, etc, then it's probably around -10K or so. Maybe more.
