I'm working on something big. I think you'll like it.
Don't kill yourself yet
Did I ever tell you guys about the time someone who was obviously concerned about my spiritual well-being anonymously sent me a large amount of Chick tracts in the mail? Shit was awesome!
Those tracts always remind me of this weird trailer that was parked on the outskirts of a state fair that I would go to when I was a kid. It had a big sign on it that said "Kids! Talk to God!" You'd go into the trailer and there were a couple of little brightly colored phones. If you picked up the phone and listened you'd hear the voice of an alcoholic mall Santa tell you to be good, and I wish I could remember exactly what the recording said, but it was something about the temptations of the flesh. We were always warned not to go near the god trailer, but you can only win so many AC/DC mirrors and pot leaf necklaces before you get curious. Anyways when you left they'd load you up with those little comic books. I had quite a collection.
Jack Chick.
He was a lot like Kirby, really, when you get right down to it. They both saw comics as operas. Of cosmic portends.
I just wish Satan were really just a guy down in hell plotting to burn our collective shiny metal asses and the power of Christ and the Word of the bible could compel him to stop.
But then, I have had ON EAGLE'S WINGS fucking stuck in my head all fuck day.
Although, as far as brain glue, that song has nothing on And the Father Will Dance.
Telling how I remembered the lyric "He will exult over you" as "He will be reluctant towards you." I'm not sure whether this is how I remembered/heard it as a kid, or if this is how I came to remember it after years of not hearing it. But, I heard it about twice a week for years, one would think I would get it right.
Must've been the Satan making me feel bad about myself. :(
Yesterday on Eagle's Wings:
"You can trust me."
"Can I? I don't know who to believe, Bradley."
"Mercedes, just put the gun down."
