Well, I know there are some of you that have been in the scene a long time now, and I was wondering who you first saw and when?
My first was Flogging Molly with the Briefs and Tsunami Bomb supporting them in 2004. Yes, haha, I'm young.
Everyone's First Show?
I'm not much older than you, but I've been going to shows for quite a while. The first show I went to was probably Forever Youth/Spoonful of Vicodin at the 10 Weston Theatre. Actually that might be a lie. I think I went to some house shows and I think the shitty Christian-based all ages venue opened up around this time too. Anyway, it was a local show sometime in late 2000.
Bad Brains, Slapshot, Sam Black Church, Leeway at the Channel in Boston winter of 91 or 92. Chuck Mosley was singing. The place was this dump hanging dangerously on the edge of a pier and when the crowd started jumping up and down the floor would sway and buckle so much that you could see the monitors rock back and forth precariously. It was awesome. The show was amazing, but the main thing I remember is they had 2 for a dollar hot dogs, 4 of which made me violently ill...
That's when your lifelong love of The Who was cemented, eh? I guess the B-52's and Joan Jett made it a "new wave" show of sorts, but if we're talking mainstream rock shows, my mom took me to see Guns N' Roses opening for Aerosmith, summer '88. That was pretty incredible...
I think I saw that Chuck Mosley/Bad Brains tour. Wasn't Mackie drumming for them at the time? I can't recall. It was a great show regardless.
My first punk show would probably have been Stevie Stiletto and the Switchblades in 1983 or 84. They opened their own club in 1984, so I got to see bands like SNFU, Black Flag, Neon Christ, Ramones, Sonic Youth, etc. over the next few months. Otherwise, Jacksonville, FL was a friggin' wasteland.
but that sounds like some bullshit there.
My first show was Patti Smith opening for Bob Seger in 1977. Curtis Hixon Convention Center (R.I.P.) in Tampa. My first fucking show was the one where she broke her neck! Holy shit! I was like 14.
My first full fledged "punk" show was The Police and the Swimming Pool Qs. 1978 Tampa Theater.
I was also aware of, but too young to go to, The New York Dolls playing this club on the outskirts of Tampa (where they broke up) and the Iggy Pop tour where David Bowie was playing keyboards (a venue called the Other Place which later became an Agora and is now a FBA Hall).

I swear I was there. Proof: I'm the same age as you.
I don't understand how the Police show was more punk than the Patti Smith one. Only in Tampa.
I would have to say it was the Casbey Awards (if that's considered by your standards a 'show') where I got to see Billy Talent, The Stills, Thornley and some other bands that I really like. It was a free show...
since I've been going to $5-$10 shows...
