It seems to me that the death of over 22,000 people, even if they ain't Amerikun, deserves some notice on these boards. At least as a source for tasteless comments. Just saying.

I know! At least it's one of the most BUZZED ABOUT topics on the HUFFINGTON POST!

You know, along with all that other important stuff.

Sorry to hijack your thread to go on a tirade, but what the fuck happened to the Huffington Post? It used to be marginally respectable (albeit in a way that fulfilled all the comical liberal stereotypes), but within a matter of a few short weeks, it's turned into a horrible entertainment blog, just a few steps above TMZ on the evolutionary ladder.

Oh. My. God. I know!

That story is at the top of the heap on news.google, whereas the cyclone is way back in 9th place. Tsk tsk. when will these third world people learn how to make dying en masse more interesting?

I have a friend from Burma who spent many years in prison there for his pro-democracy activism.
He has been in contact with his family and they are all okay but he says that the prisions have been badly damanged and political prisioners are getting caught up in riots and being tortured by the junta, and four have been killed.
I asked him if he knew of any organizations or NGOs that could get aid to the people who needed it and not the junta. He recommended donating to Burmese Buddhists organizations. Says they're the best bet to get aid money to the people who need it.

To be fair,

the people of Myanmar may be better off not being American.

I'm being totally cereal.

At least when the aid starts getting there it will be used...instead of sitting in a bank account or wasting away on a tarmac.
