Making a Blog Post Instead of a ChitChat Thread When the Topic Is Evidently Intended to Provoke Conversation

Why do people do this? Is it an implicit effort to control or shape the expected subsequent discourse? Cf. my "Etiquette of Commenting on Blog Posts" thread. Regardless, it usually doesn't work. Stæp is able to pull it off for some reason, but that guy gets away with a lot of shit.
