Summer mix

Okay, so on "Sound Opinions" a few weeks ago, Kot and Derogatis were talking about their summer jams, and one of them, ah, mentioned "Rumpshaker." That just about made me die. Luckily, I did not die, but instead thought about what I'd put on a summer mix. It would not include "Rumpshaker." I'd list: Sunny Afternoon - The Kinks, Mambo Sun - T. Rex, In the Summertime - Mungo Jerry (total no brainer), Beercan - Beck, Hey - The Pixies, Neighbourhood - David Byrne

I think we can agree that Kot and DeRo got it wrong - add tracks to my summer mix, pls. We have it right.

Both. Either.

I'm pleased to see mentions of The Cars. They're very summerish. Also probably The Breeders' "Drivin on 9." Summer often meant, for me, driving around. Not any more, of course, but it used to and it's tough to shake the desire to road trip the second July rolls around. Which is now.

Yeah, that Girl Talk album has successfully burnt its way into my brain. I'm assuming that's how you got "Steal My Sunshine" stuck in yours.

As far as songs that remind me of summer... man, the summer that I was 23 (1994) was a particularly fun and drunk summer for me, and as such, I tend to associate anything I was listening to during that time period as "the ultimate summer jamz." These include:

Pavement: Gold Soundz
The Jimmy Castor Bunch: The Bertha Butt Boogie Pt. 1
Swervedriver: Son of Mustang Ford
Anything from "Funeral at the Movies" by Shudder to Think

sadly it's not because of girl talk that i have 'steal my sunshine' stuck in my head.

i was on this 90's thing during the summer and it had run it's gambit.
and on my never ending list of one hit wonders of the 90's i was reminded of len.

this short lived fad came and went for me.

the album drops.

and there is len again.
