Good riddance to bad years.

by Nora Rocket | 01/01/2007 | in haaaate | narcissism

Here are the fun things I did this year, chronologically:
1. twisted the bejeezus out of my right ankle, which still can't move like it used to!
2. endured five solid months of menstruation, leading directly to...
3. got diagnosed with a chronic disease!
4. lost a piercing!
5. quit a job I loved and at which I made bank!
6. left belov'ed Chicago!
7. moved to stinky dumb Boston!
8. ran completely out of money!
9. got fucking painfully, ridiculously depressed!
10. ruined my relationship!

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, 2006.

Oh man, I can relate!

I hurt my back, moved to stinky dumb Tucson, lived without money for a big portion of the year, and was diagnosed with some nonsense right before I left GR. Lame.

2006 goes down as one of my all-time worst. It can only go up from here, right?

Actually, there is a bit of silver lining: I met a really great girl over the weekend. '06 and Tucson still sucked in general, though.

I totally agree, but I also should say that whereas it often CAN get worse, it does not ALWAYS get worse. Same goes for "change can be good." Yes, it can; it is not always.

I've come to a conclusion about the nature of situational comparisons: they're of little real use. How much does it matter to my current situation that it is not something else? It's a bit bogus, I think, to compare a given situation with a hypothetical that is not just unlikely but un-happening. Many people (I'm not picking on you, just using your example) have offered that it might be worse were I living in [insert lame 'urb here] (though no one's ever said Toronto would be a downgrade...), but I'm not living, nor would I live, in given lame 'urb. I'm not interested in what I wouldn't and didn't do; I'm interested in what I did do and what I now should do.

'twas all mainly in
Submitted by theorybrat on Mon, 01/01/2007 - 11:46pm.

'twas all mainly in jest...

but uprooting and moving can be challeging at best... there ARE worse places to be, i'd think, than boston. but all things are situational and often very personal. and if things are shitty for you, things are shitty for you...

i wish you the best of luck... i'm not sure what else there is to say....

why is it though, that, so many people are bitching about 2006 being such a shitty year?? what's been going down, i wonder...

Re #9

I think all the fucking rain has something to do with it. My god, I never encountered so much rain until I moved to the East Coast.

I hear that. In a highly metaphorical weather pattern, it began raining as we left Chicago in August and rained on us the entire two-day, multi-state drive AND for the first two days we "lived" here. I don't mind rain, really, but that was just a little too literal, yeah?

christ, not long after moving here, it rained for nearly a week straight. Which, really sucked, cos at the time I was still in school, and umbrellas aren't allowed in the classrooms. So, there were a shit-ton of "brollys" littered about the hallways. It's a small gripe, but still..

nora, were you involved with the a-zone, fnb, or the crust punk scene in chicago? you look familiar to me like i've seen you at one of those things several years ago (like 5 or 6 years ago).

my year was half good, half shitty. luckily the good part was the last half of it. it wasn't completely wonderful but i'll take it over the first half.

i'm just relieved that i'm not supporting my boyfriends family any longer.

Sadly, you remember my doppelganger. I know, shocking: there are other short, short-haired, metal mouthed, tattooed ladies on the scene in Chicago. I saw many of me, though my true doppelganger from Chicago was four years younger than me and ended up going to my college my senior year. I decided I had to destroy her or make it with her, just to maintain the integreity of the universe. Unforch, I accomplished neither, despite my many efforts. Maybe you remember *her*; she was called Sarah.

The a-zone lost its lease about three years ago, yeah? And they moved but I don't remember where to.
