VIDEO: Ant attack forces Brazilian footballer to flee field
Players' most bizarre injuries

Brazilian footballer Marcos Paulo is recovering from one of the most bizarre injuries possible on a football field - an attack by ants.

The Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo player had to leave the field after bites by the ants became too much during a Sao Paulo state championship match against Oeste e Santacruzense.

Marcos Paulo stripped off his shirt after feeling stings and frantically splashed himself with water from a puddle on the pitch.

Still in pain, he decided the only solution was to run off to the changing room for a bath before returning to the match and helping his side to a 2-2 draw.

The city government, which is responisble for the stadium in Presidente Prudente, have promised to make an example of the fiendish ants.

"It is an isolate and very unusual incident," said sport secretary Edson Pelagio. "But the official responsible for the stadium's pitch has been ordered to put poison on the grass to stop it happening again."

Far from being a model of social co-operation, the ant world is riddled with cheating and corruption – and it goes all the way to the top, according to scientists from the Universities of Leeds and Copenhagen. Royal Intrique in the Hive

White ants, a seasonal delicacy among the Acholi, live in anthills and come out once a year in April. The insects are normally harvested at night using a source of light placed conveniently next to a dug hole to lure the insects. But quite a number of them avoid the light and flee, to the chagrin of the harvesters.

Days-old workers responded to the attacks by pretending to be dead. Weeks-old workers responded by fleeing and months-old workers fought back. By feigning death, young workers were four times more likely to survive the attack than were the older workers who ran away or fought back. fire ants

A one-year-old baby's body left unattended after her death by the staff was found to be infested by ants by the parents. The body attracted insects while it was lying in the ward before being handed over to the parents. hahaha. India suxx.

Smoking the red ant gives a similar sensation to smoking marijuana and sniffing glue because of the high concentration of formic acid found in the ants.

This ant has yet to be identified to species due to confusion regarding the taxonomy of the genus. Therefore, this ant is referred to as Paratrechina sp. nr. pubens.

They have been known to short out many different types of electrical apparatuses. In some cases the ants have caused several thousand dollars in damage and remedial costs.

In a feat not easy for some birds, the Amazonian leaf-cutter ant can fly across the 2-mile width of the Amazon River, reveals UT graduate Scott Solomon and other researchers in a study on the ant's biodiversity.

That fact debunks the "riverine barrier hypothesis," at least in regard to leaf-cutter ants. The hypothesis states that species diversity comes from an inability to cross the width of a waterway, causing a divide in the genetic pool.
