Chicago street misses Punk Planet, collapses

by Sinker | 01/22/2008 | in Chicago

CHICAGO--The street just outside the old Punk Planet office collapsed yesterday, after nearly six months of missing the magazine. 80 feet of street and sidewalk gave way, and the street's tears flooded nearby businesses and parked cars. A spokesperson from the former magazine apologized for the inconvenience caused by the brokenhearted roadway.

When I heard "water main break" this morning, I didn't think "huge sinkhole in the middle of Montrose." Jesus. So much for that whole Montrose El stop reconstruction. Half the street can't get to the train entrance. Good thing you and Jay moved out. How will I ever get to Hazel now??? Thank god Beans and Bagels is on the east side of the break. It's still accessible.*

* denotes sarcasm. I don't have enough money to get a lox bagel at B&B or a sweet tote bag from Hazel - I'm fooling myself. carry on.

Beans had four feet of water in their basement this morning, so I'm not sure if you could get that bagel even if you wanted it. Talk about not being able to catch a break: The el stop FINALLY reopens, bringing all their commuters back to buy coffees, and now this!

so far this winter in dc there have been two big water mains burst within close proximity to my apartment and i've heard about others on the news as well happening in the metro area -- i was thinking how bizarre this was and how i don't remember hearing about this happening during my year residence in chicago.. and then this! maybe winter 2k8 is the year of the water main.... or maybe montrose was just sad about punk planet/bird machine leaving.
