Whining blog entry about stress, pain and discomfort

by steep | 10/11/2006 | in Blog

Spent yesterday having needles in my arm for all kinds of godawful diseases like Typhoid and so on. Total cost was $900 - and we've hardly started yet. We have to do TB yet, and then start paying for whatever Malaria option we hit upon. Still feeling very nauseous.

I think I woke in a start from a nightmare and pulled a large mucle in my neck a few mights ago and now I can barely move and am on heaps of painkillers which I do not normally do. This has happened before. It could be the Barmah Forest Fever. My wife had this and I have long suspected I also contractd a mild case, or something else I got that is mucking up my digestion.

In the next few weeks I have to take catch up driving lessons, pack up my house, sell half our posessions, write a grant and a paper, and all sorts of other logistical nightmares plus I have to go give blood tommorow I might have Barmah Forest Fever or whatever is making me fell so weird and stuffing up my digestion, plus to test for electrolyte levels because my muscles keep cramping.

Trip overseas starting to look like a fucking daft idea.

It could be the Ross River Virus

You know.

And nausea is not a symptom of either.

The nausea is either from all the needles

or the heavy drinking.

Rosss River is actually possible, pretty unlikely but if I have that the blood screen will get it. They are loking for EVERYTHING.

Where you headed? For malaria, Malarone is expensive but an easy drug to take (no side effects, but make sure you take it within the same 30 minutes each day. They didn't tell me that but apparently it's really, really key).

The wife and kids are trialling Larium but I know it is not for me (previous episodes of psychiatric illness are a big NO for Larium) so I will probably go on Malarone when the medical insurance has kicked in after 3 months. WE can't afford it otherwise, its like $AUD200 / month or something reticulous like that.

We are going to live in the Solomon Islands for a year, maybe two. The malaria there is chloroquinine resistant.
