On the poetry front, I'm starting to submit to more publications and am waiting on feedback from them- however, one of my poems is being anthologized. Which, is pretty cool.

By the end of the calendar year, I want to move out of Providence. Not sure where, exactly, but Boston does hold certain sway with me...fact of the matter is, all the JWU kids gobble up all the culinary related jobs (after all, it makes more economic sense to pay some 19/20 year old kid 8 bux an hour), and this town grinds to a halt in the summer- hence, I get rather tired of scrambling for part time jobs and the cost of living is way too fucking high. I mean seriously...I have to work 5 weeks here, at my part time to earn the money I made in a week when I was cooking in Boston which is fucked up. Not to mention my lack of health insurance. I do however, get paid holidays which is some consolation and I like my co-workers which helps, but after student loans, rent and the rest, I really don't have much discretionary income..and I do believe my lack of a vehicle is hindering my hire ability.
About a week ago, I moved into my new place my new housemate is pretty fucking awesome (hooray for living with fellow non-smokers), and even better yet, as my last few living situations were less than "stellar" I feel comfortable with inviting people over. Additionally, he understands the concept of "my stuff" vs not my stuff- which isn't to say I'm anti-sharing...i'm very pro sharing (unless it's my last bottle of guinness).
which has just begun, and if you'd like to vote (voting closes oct 11th), my poem is titled "Rush Hour".

Man, I'm really hating life.
Turns out, the place I've been renting has been in foreclosure since last Feb. (I started renting in March) apparently, the bank attempted to auction the house and it went unsold. (backstory- I came home late one sat evening, and there was a note taped to the back door which essentially read: "is anyone living here? call this number: {completely different phone number from my landlord's} so I did, and well, found out that the guy I'd been dealing with is now my former landlord.) So, I'm basically living in a place w/out paying rent, trying to find a roommate (Providence rent is insane as are the utility rates) and have received very few responses to my queries to posted "roommate wanted" ads. I really don't see why its so hard for people to create an eamil that says "thanks for your interest, the spot has been filled" or whatever. Jesus.
Today, I am happy.
And, I'm totally stoked with breakfast cereal...seriously. I make my living preparing food for people..however, I rarely ever cook at home...nonetheless, I like cereal...a lot. It's no muss no fuss. Thusly, I'm completely awed with this new grape nuts product.....grape nuts trail mix crunch... I read another online review wherein, GNTMC was declared "too sweet". I disagree, I think it's just right...I like it with milk, and I like it mixed into my yogurt.
Also, it ain't cereal, but here's my ideal way to make plain rice...(the herbs are dry)
Well, I'm participating in an online poetry slam, and if you want to vote for my poem or my opponent's poem, just follow this link: steve's poetry slam.
My poem is on the bottom left corner, and titled "Scribbling Scribe".
New Model Army: Chinese Whispers The first ever song I heard by my (still favorite band) back in 1988. I can't believe I've been listening to their music for almost as long as they've been recording. Although there are (shockingly) some songs in their catalogue that I just can't listen to, for the most part, their output is (largely) outstanding and unparalleled.
Dead Kennedys: California Uber Alles Dead Kennedys were one of the first punk bands I discovered and myself and those I used to sakte with continually played their albums during our sessions. Back then, I didn't appreciate Jello's wit nearly as much as I do now.
being fired sucks. It's happened before, but the last time it happened, I had a fallback plan. This time, I have none. I really can't bitch too much though, after all, I kinda saw the signs.
bitchin' summer salad
Slice strawberries (fresh) (1 cup)

cucumber (peeled & de-seeded) and cut into bite size pieces
balsamic vinegar (about a 1/2 tbsp)
S&P (to taste)
lemon juice (dash)
sugar (pinch)
cut up the cuke, dress with a pinch of sugar, and everything else EXCEPT the berries, let sit for about an hour, then incorporate the sliced berries, skarf and enjoy!
