Moral Crux and Pink Lincolns vinyl only re-issues

by JHR28 | 04/09/2008 | in music | punk band

We have the first installment of our Moral Crux re-issue series out now for order. Vinyl only version of their 1987 self titled debut full length.

This has been out of print since... 1987 the year it came out.

It comes in four colors, and includes a bonus (full art replication) cd of the album plus 9 bonus and live tracks. 31 tracks total.

Pink Lincolns Back From The Pink Room is available for pre-order now as well, on vinyl only format.

We are going through the entire Moral Crux and Pink Lincolns catalog this year with vinyl remaster/re-issues.

Sorry for the self promotional post.

Rock and/or Roll

by Costacide | 01/14/2008 | in music | not battlestar galactica | random | tapes

I recently found an old tape by this band called The Youth Ahead.

I saw them on a bill years ago with a variety of ska bands in Long Island. The one dude who was singing had his baseball cap sideways.

I really liked this band, for some reason. The borderline diabetes saccharine pop-punk causes runs in my family.

I hope I don't have to take shots for this later on in life.

You care.

Vote for my site, Late Night Wallflower (OK, technically "the site I write for sometimes that isn't actually MINE per se") so that we can finally fee loved.

Late Night Wallflower, started by Alfie, Elona, and Matt P has been in existance for over a year. We've managed to get some awesome stuff done since then, including interview with (NON-DEAD) Ian McKaye, Daryl Jennifer, Jeff from Modern Life Is War, photographer Chrissy Piper, reports on Different Kind Of Dude fest and THE Fest, as well as a ton of other shit.

In search of violence for the sake of $0.85

by Costacide | 08/06/2007 | in music | not battlestar galactica | random | writing

Oh the places that you'll go to find someone that you know;

First off, I am preparing to embark on what could be a landmark for me. On Thursday after work, I'm planning to go check out my friends The New Dress, along with Attica Attica (ex-Marathon), Jena Berlin, and Polar Bear Club. It'll be my 6th time seeing The New Dress.

Before them, the most time I've seen any band was 3, 4 at the most. However, I have discovered my mission in life, and it is to see this blatant-but-proud Billy Bragg-copying duo as much as humanly possible and pimp them out whenever possible, to whatever chump will listen. Are you a chump? If so, look up and listen to The New Dress. They're not a loose collective of art-school dropouts who all sleep with each other and make "music" with some salvaged Fisher-Price keyboards, but nor are they muscle-bound 80's washouts who were down with someone who was down with a cousin of the original bassist for Born Against.

In search of synchronicity

by Costacide | 06/20/2007 | in music | not battlestar galactica | random | throwing up

I first came across this term when reading something about anime. Don't hate. Since then I've noticed it occur a few times in my life. A few nights ago it struck again in its own way.

I'm working (slowly) on my Master's thesis and my focus is William Gibson. I'm basically gonna bullshit for 30-odd pages about his Sprawl trilogy and its influence on other crap.

Two nights ago as I'm researching cybernetics in popular culture? "New Rose Hotel", a movie based on the short story by Gibson, is on TV.

I skipped around like a little schoolgirl for some reason as this all came together.

Rocking in the (Not So) Free World

by ipis dei | 05/17/2007 | in cosmopolitanism | filipino | globalization | hardcore | islam | music | punk

A friend of mine -- let's call her Dead Star -- relocated to Dubai several months ago, to live with her dad (an engineer in the ranks of the Overseas Filipino Workforce) and his new girlfriend.

Her first weeks in the country left her bored out of her skull, unable to deal with the frustrating mix of large-scale consumption (grandiose shopping malls; opulent luxury resorts) and fundamentalist Islamic cultural practices (getting the stink-eye for her discount-bin harajuku fashion, and dealing with the inconvenience of buying cheap snack food during the Ramadan fasting).

HWC, Inc. in ITT

Hey all, I wrote a story in the political monthly IN THESE TIMES about He Who Corrupts, Inc., and even though they took out the copious naked references, you might still find something enjoyable about it. Then again, you might not: http://www.inthesetimes.com/article/3141/our_profit_margin_could_be_your...

WKRP News

by anne elizabeth moore | 04/23/2007 | in copyright | intellectual property rights | music

Funny or fucked-up?: WKRP in Cincinnati is finally coming out on DVD, held up for years due to rights clearances, with Muzak dubbed in for the songs they couldn't acquire rights to.

By way of the awesome Rob Walker (robwalker.net), who does all the best blog-reading for me:
