self-publishing

hi new york

by anne elizabeth moore | 02/26/2008 | in cambodia | self-promotion | self-publishing | UNMARKETABLE

I'm coming to hang out with you.

On March 8, I'll be doing a quick reading at Bluestockings from Unmarketable, and also show off some fun new stuff from my recent project, teaching self-publishing to girls in Cambodia.

I'm also willing to: answer questions, sign books, and give free but unhelpful advice about that hairstyle of yours. I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and I'm just not sure it's you.

I hope to see you here:

7 p.m. Saturday, March 8
Bluestockings Radical Books
172 Allen Street between Stanton and Rivington: 212.777.6028

heart,
aem

Top One: Troy, NY

by anne elizabeth moore | 11/09/2007 | in independent culture | self-publishing | usa travel

It is true that there are a lot of great things about Troy, New York. Birthplace of Uncle Sam? Means everything has a totally inappropriate American flag on it? Which is incredible? But one far and away totally blew my mind, and I will list it below in a second, in order of preference,, one being the only number on this list.

(I'd also like to acknowledge that there is one truly sucky thing about Troy, NY, which is beiong there if you have lost your voice. It's much harder to be hilarious when you can't talk. I am just no good at physical comedy.)

OK, so are you ready for my list of the Top One list of things about Troy, NY? Here we go:

camb(l)o(g)dia

by anne elizabeth moore | 10/24/2007 | in Blog | self-publishing | travel

It's true, I'm going to Cambodia.

And you can come with me . . . virtually! By reading my blog! Called of course Camblogdia!*

But don't actually try to show up, 'cause I totally will not let you in. I hardly even know you!

*Please be advised that right now, this is mostly a blog about raising funds to go to Cambodia. If that interests you, or if you have some extra money and you want to give it to me, please read the blog. If not, well, you might want to wait until December 1 before reading, when I will actually be there, and writing some

Your Geneva Here

by anne elizabeth moore | 08/18/2007 | in independent culture | self-publishing | zines

People, KPunk does a zine called Geneva 13 and it is awesome. Completely focused on Geneva, NY, and all the attendant issues that go along with it (from citizen monitoring to indie restaurants), the zine is a fairly slick DIY manual entirely devoted to vitalizing zine culture in one singular town. Missing from issue one is only a layout guide for new zinesters, a key to distribution centers in Geneva, NY (AKA a map of drop spots), and that gritty feel you get from certain fanzines that makes you wanna make one yourself in an afternoon, because who cares how you spell "rekkid?"—not the people who make Geneva 13. These missing bits are made up for with smart, creative reporting and an interest in networking with other Genevas throughout the country. And anyway, they will probably get around to the above in upcoming issues. How can they not? So: Live in a Geneva? Send in your own Geneva zine. Don't? Buy one from KPunk and start reporting on your own city.

mind your p's and q's

by Alan Lastufka | 05/27/2007 | in letterpress | not battlestar galactica but still badass | self-publishing | zines

Finished the letterpress printing filmstrip! =)

It's hosted by Philip Cheaney at the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) and features music by Fugazi (I actually got to talk to Ian MacKaye on the phone to get permission!!), imadethismistake and Geoff Shilling.

This is the second installment in the Fall of Autumn Filmstrip series on various printing techniques. The first installment covered offset printing and can be found here.

Enjoy!
