Okay, quick hit: I'm back, it was awesome, I ate a whole skewer of cow hearts off a cart in the street (it was delicious...the hearts, not the street), and I seem to have developed a taste for the supernaturally coloured Inka Kola.

I took about 280 pictures, so with apologies for sending you off-site, here is the set on Flickr. Please enjoy.

It was only about 10 days, not long enough, but I highly recommend Peru as a travel destination, especially if you can wrangle to go there during the low season when prices are lower. If you speak Spanish, it could not be an easier trip.

Traveling home to the racist, Christian heartland

I was down in Jacksonville, Florida last weekend to visit my parents. I am still trying to process the experience. The presence of Confederate flags has definitely gone down in recent years. I suspect that is a post-9/11 phenomenon, when American flag decals replaced rebel flags. However, I did see one “Remember 9/11” sticker that incorporated the rebel flag. That was just too weird. I also saw two NAAWP (National Association for the Advancement of White People) bumper stickers. The public pronouncement of racist sentiment still surprises me and I’m never quite sure how to respond to a racist bumper sticker (punch the car?).

OK. I'm going to be in Glasgow, Scotland the day of the Super Bowl on tour as a merch guy. The game will air at like midnight. Do any of you know anyone there that I can stay with and stay up late to watch the game?

I have no idea where we're staying that night, but really, really want to support the Bears from across the Atlantic.
