It will happen soon

For a long time, my favorite thing in Chicago was the painted window on a certain storefront underneath the Western brown line station: "Chubby Wieners...It Will Happen Soon!" It just had this very portentious feel about it. I know they used this somewhat baroque phrasing to avoid telling us that a wiener would be coming, but that never lessened my delight. I loved how heavy the announcement seemed, how certain: it WILL happen, and SOON.

I'm thinking about the Chubby Wieners sign this week, because things in my life are reaching the It Will Happen Soon point. My options are opening up, change is on the way; could be, who knows. It kicked off three days ago when the job I put in for, and about which I am still reluctant to speak, called me about an interview. So I'm busting down to New York on Tuesday night for a Wednesday afternoon interview with the head of the sales department and the head of HR. I am now an official candidate for this position, and I have the three-page job application form and background check authorization paperwork to prove it.

But what if I *do* [heart] New York?

As I'd feared, this past weekend was a dangerous thing: put Nora in a big city and give her some friends and a real burrito and what happens? She begins to draw even more unfavourable comparsions between this possible life and her current life.

Yes yes y'all, my maiden voyage to New York was a total success. On Friday night, as we walked to the diner, we acted as first responders to a pretty serious cab-and-bike accident that happened right in front of our eyes, and my lady hit 911 first--an accident in New York reported by a native Wisconsonite visiting the city from her home in Boston but calling on a phone with a Chicago number. We are modern young America, bitches, and we move around a lot.

By M.J. Kang:

Click for more pics and music from this band.

Strictly Platonic

MJ: Thanks for coming out on the coldest day in New York in two years. You're not wearing many layers.

RP: Just a hoodie, my jacket and a t-shirt.

MJ: No long johns?

RP: No.

MJ: Can you tell me who are Strictly Platonic?

RP: It's me, Romeo Platonic, our drummer, BettyRacecar, Imogen Explosion, our guitarist, Johnny Firehouse, our bassist, and Moise Ramone, who's our back up singer/enforcer.

MJ: You're kind of punk, kind of Goth, but different. How did your sound come about?

New York Underground!

I've been going out to a lot of bars and clubs in NYC for a long time now and came to the conclusion that....I LOVE this city. I've meet, interviewed and hung out with some great people. I recently interviewed, Jason Blank, from the band "Zero 8's" which are amazing. This band has great music but a sad following. It seems to me that sometimes the punk scene in NYC is dying....I hope I'm wrong. Anyways, I used to work for a magazine (which I won't name because they fired me) and I thought I would post my interviews and pics here...just to get it out of my system and maybe have some people read my Blog.
