How did you survive the frustration of the Reagan years?

People older than me (which is pretty much everyone but Alex and Katie): how did you deal with such a frustrating political climate? Seriously, I'm starting to worry about my mental and physical health. How did you guys do it?

I'm looking into a. finding a desert island or b. becoming an idiot so I won't care anymore.

Welcome to 1984 pt 2

http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2007/06/06/american-reporters-arrest-c...

"But something else was going on among the press corps, according to bloggers. A YouTube video has surfaced showing InfoWars.com's Matt Lepacek, who claimed to have proper press credentials at CNN's Republican debate, being arrested at the command of Giuliani's press secretary after asking a question.

Never mind the question itself. It was a rather audacious query about Giuliani's knowledge of a terrorist threat prior to 9/11. And that's something we'd rather not get into here.

But Lepacek's arrest brings up some serious questions about freedom of the press, especially since Lepacek is being held on charges of criminal trespassing and espionage.

Science of the FUTURE!!!

I just saw some commercial for a TV show on the Discovery Channel about radical sciences of the future, like electric flying cars, massive Earth-anchored but outer space-floating solar power harvesters, and bio-med monitoring clothing.

Then I had the depressing thought that NONE of it will come to pass because science is politics' bitch. Before you know it, high school students won't be able to fart into a test tube without a Congressional hearing.

Prada Punk?

Here's my question:

I like to think of myself as one of those punks who isn't in it for the image. Sometimes I'll get dressed up for a show or to party, but most of the time, I'd rather just wear fuzzy sweaters (it's cold here in New England, and ripped fishnets just don't insulate).

In any case, I do have a few accessories other than my body mods that I wear all the time to let people know where I'm coming from. I have a sweet pair of giant star earrings and a good colection of t-shirts from concerts.

I also have a Kenneth Cole studded watch that I wear every day, and yesterday I aquired my first pair of eyeglasses - I'm getting old. They were covered through my insurance company (I'm a unionized grad student - workers unite!), and so I got a fairly pricey pair for cheap, I just couldn't resist. Geeky Buddy-Holly-black-plastic with little stars on the sides that match my earrings and my neck tats.

North Korea Luanches nuclear test.

Rector scales picked it up on the level as heroshima and nuclear fall out has been detected.

This is some scary stuff. We're looking at either the second korean conflict or the makings of WWIII.

Bill Frist on Afghanistan: cut and run

So while we're talking about creepy Republicans, I thought I'd share this nugget from our own Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist. On Monday, Frist said this about the Afghan war:

Military versus insurgency one-to-one doesn't sound like it can be won. It sounds to me ... that the Taliban is everywhere.

He said this during a one day tour of Afghanistan which saw his helicopter pelted by stones thrown by children, and also had a suicide bomber blow up next to a NATO convoy in Kabul.

His solution to this problem? Simple!

"You need to bring them into a more transparent type of government," Frist said during a brief visit to a U.S. and Romanian military base in the southern Taliban stronghold of Qalat. "And if that's accomplished we'll be successful."

Losing Afghanistan to a naked Demi Moore

I wasn't looking for it. I was undertaking no study on coverage of American foreign policy in domestic vs. international mainstream publications. But there it was taking up the upper-left-hand corner of Newsweek's site: a small thumbnail of each edition of the magazine--Europe, Asia, Latin America and the United States.

The covers of each edition NOT distributed in the United States were identical. The photo: a striking close-up of an Afghan fighter with a rocket launcher propped on his shoulder. The headline: LOSING AFGHANISTAN. "Losing"
was in particularly large type.

The photos lined up in a vertical row:

Pasta

I went out for Italian food tonight, and now I'm watching some "documentary" on TV about heavy metal. Before that I was watching some lame TV movie with Bigfoot.

I've noticed a trend in a rise of "real" cable-tv talk show hosts. White men who feel that they're "keeping it real" and "un-PC" by being bullies and bigots and just yelling and acting like they know what they're talking about when they dismiss human rights, talk about sexuality, and "debating" with people who have differing opinions than them.

So basically, by just being an asshole with money, I could be a TV star by basically telling feminists to "lighten up".

THE TIME HAS COME TO GALVANIZE AND THROW THE BUMS OUT IN 2006, 2007, 2008

I am here today to announce my candidacy for Houston City Council again in 2007. I am a candidate for Houston City Council At-Large Position #2. I encourage other candidates to run for this seat as well as all other Houston City Council Seats because this White Administration is the most corrupt administration that the City of Houston has ever had.
There is a curse on the City of Houston because of all this corruption at Houston City Hall.
Hispanic Magazine was correct in not naming Houston as one of the top 10 cities for Latinos to live in. We Hispanics are the majority here in Houston yet we do not have not one At-Large Houston City Council Seat. One of the reasons is because you have White Lesbian Carpetbaggers like Sue Lovell who is not even born in Houston coming to Houston and disrespecting the Hispanic Community.
