searching...

by theagoddess | 05/13/2007

I moved to Albuquerque from Minneapolis. I like it here - good job, cheap to live, great scenery - but I miss all the opportunities to do things... anything! Culture in Minneapolis made it worth the insanely cold winters that could last most of the year. It was easy to find. All you had to do was walk down the street and you could find shows, theater and as much interesting printed matter as your brain could process. I'm slowly digging all that up here...but it feels like it's taking a really long time.

Minneapolis to Albuquerque? At least you've got your health, or something... I moved to Utah, awhile back, after 5 years in San Francisco and I'm still in culture shock. I love the desert though, in fact I'm hoping to move south before next winter and Albuquerque is one of the places I'm thinking of (as well as Tempe, San Antonio or Flagstaff.) Check out:

good luck!

good ol' minneapolis

I lived in Minneapolis for a while as well (Minnesota girl through and through), and now im about 2 1/2 hours north. I miss the opportunities for shows and all that as well, but just like any city, it gets old. I cant say that the winters were as bad there as they are up here, but I know what you mean about them getting long. Sometimes they feel like they are never going to end, and the sun is never coming back. Good luck in your new city, I'm sure it will turn out to be an adventure, if nothing else!

Hey, thanks for the tips..especially wigwambam. If you love nature, this is the place for you. I can see the mountains out my front door and it never fails to take my breath away. You definitely win on the culture shock front, though. It sounds like Albuquerque would definitely be a step in the right direction.

I appreciate your response...never put my thoughts out so publicly before and was a little nervous. Keep in touch if you move here! I could show you around to what I have found so far!

Up north, huh? You definitely got me on the culture shock front there, too. Perspective is good. I don't know about the getting old part for me...I was there for well over ten years and kept finding new things. I'm kind of the type with the wide eyes that loves new experiences,no matter how small. Which means, I think, that I will survive here.

Thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate the positive reception and perspective. Always good to get another view!

Never blogged or anything like that before. I guess I was afraid of the inherent risk of putting my thoughts out there - but this was a pleasant surprise! Thanks for the welcome and I will continue to post!
